vbPortal and vBulletin, a way to go?

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. Im interested in learning about making websites so I'll be here pretty often. I have a question right now because somewhere I read that a guy made a site based on vbPortal. I researched and found that vbPortal is an add-on to vBulletin and here's where I got lost. What are they? Can I use them to improve my site? How? This is the first time I read about them so any guide on the topic will be welcomed. Thanks for posting back.

vBulletin is a PHP software that helps you implementing forums on your site. And vbPortals is a software that helps you to do more with your vBulletin, like an apendix to it. The vBulletin is a commercial (not-free) option. The free application is phpBB.

Imho, the way to go isnt vbPortal neither vBulletin. This site is powered by phpBB and as you can see its useful and it handle pretty well many functions. As it is General Public License you can customize it and get even better functions than those of vBulletin (as this customized URLs). Good luck
