Create a link with a user entry

Hi, Im learning HTML, and I think this is a great site to start...

My question today is about links. I know that using

but could I let the user write a word and then when he clicks it will work as a link. So he creates the link, so to speak. Is this possible?

yes, its possible. The only thing is that you will need to know what the user entered, and wether he wants to go to a different site or just go to a subfolder on yours.

Lets say you have a folder named "google" and the user wants to go to that folder.
If he types "google"
how can you tell he wants to go to your "google" folder?
or maybe other user wants to go to "http://www.google.com"
but other types "google" expecting to go to "http://www.google.co.uk"
see what I mean?

but on this link u'll find how to add just the 'http://' to the word the user typed
(then, the user needs to type the www.nameofthesite.any com or net, etc.).
