Hi guys and gals, what do you consider to be the most common text fonts on web browsers?

I think that nowadays that's not an issue, most popular browses have a LOT of fonts already installed, so don't bother too much 'bout it.

IT IS AN ISSUE!

Even though most computers today have lots of fonts installed, that doesn't mean they have the SAME fonts installed. Keep in mind that Windows, Mac, and Linux installations use (generally speaking) different font families.

If you want your site to look the same with every client you will have to play safe and stick to fonts that are common to all three major OS's. Here is a list of the fonts you will most likely find in all computers, regardless of their OS and browser:

Serif:
Times New Roman, Georgia.

Sans Serif:
Arial, Arial Black, Verdana, Impact, Tahoma, Trebuchet MS.

Cursive:
Comic Sans MS.

Monospace:
Courier New.

Personally, I always stick to Verdana for paragraph text and Arial for titles, since they will always look nice in a web site. They are clean looking and easy to read.

Hope this helps!

Yeah, to go safe you can use the generic fonts:
<p style="font-family: serif">abcdefABCDEF</p>
<p style="font-family: sans-serif">abcdefABCDEF</p>
<p style="font-family: cursive">abcdefABCDEF</p>
<p style="font-family: fantasy">abcdefABCDEF</p>
<p style="font-family: monospace">abcdefABCDEF</p>
